Radiometric Blue Light Irradiance Testing Summary

This radiometric test was performed by Solar Light Co., Inc. to measure the actual light output and wavelength characteristics of the PLA Beauty UV LED Lamp. Unlike IEC 62471 certification reports, which evaluate overall photobiological risk, this assessment focused on the lamp's spectral output, intensity, and blue-light exposure levels at the recommended working distance of 200 mm (approximately 8 inches). Additional testing was also conducted at 300 mm (approximately 12 inches) to evaluate performance under varying working conditions.

You can see the full test results from Solar Light Co., Inc. attached.

EXEMPT

The following hazard categories qualified as Exempt, meaning they were below the threshold considered hazardous under the Radiometric Blue Light Irradiance evaluation criteria:
- Actinic Ultraviolet Hazard (ES)
- Near-UV Hazard (EUVA)
- Retinal Thermal Hazard (LR)
- Infrared Radiation Hazard for the Eye (EIR)

Risk Group 1

The lamp achieved a Risk Group 1 (RG1 – Low Risk) classification for Blue Light Hazard at all tested power levels and distances.

400-410 nm

The lamp's peak output occurs between 403–405 nm, confirming operation within the intended wavelength range for UV adhesive curing.

Highest Power Settings

Testing was performed at the lamp's highest power setting and narrowest focus position to represent a worst-case exposure scenario.

What Does Risk Group 1 Mean?
Risk Group 1 (RG1) is considered a Low Risk classification. This means the light source produces measurable optical energy but remains within internationally recognized safety limits during normal use. During the evaluation, the lamp's measured exposure levels were well below the allowable limits used to determine photobiological safety.

Key Takeaway

The testing confirmed that the PLA Beauty UV LED Lamp emits light primarily within the 403–405 nm range and achieved a Risk Group 1 (Low Risk) classification for Blue Light Hazard under all tested operating conditions. In addition, all other evaluated hazard categories qualified as Exempt. In simple terms, the lamp produced the light output necessary for curing UV lash adhesives while remaining within established safety limits for its intended professional use.

IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety Summary

The PLA Beauty UV LED Lamp was independently tested by both Intertek and SGS laboratories to the IEC 62471 standard, which is the internationally recognized safety standard used to evaluate the potential effects of light exposure on the eyes and skin. This testing measures ultraviolet (UV), blue light, infrared, and thermal emissions to determine how a light source should be classified for safe use.

Test Results at 200mm distance

  • Skin Thermal Hazard (EH): EXEMPT
  • Retinal Thermal Hazard (LR): EXEMPT
  • Retinal Thermal Hazard – Weak Visual Stimulus (LIR): EXEMPT
  • Infrared (IR) Eye Hazard (EIR): EXEMPT

Risk Group 1

Test Results at 200mm distance

Minimum Power Setting, Largest Light Spot (Aperture) Setting: Risk Group 1 (Low Risk)

Risk Group 2

Test Results at 200mm distance

Maximum Power Setting, Smallest Light Spot (Aperture) Setting: Risk Group 2 (Moderate Risk)

What Does Risk Group 2 Mean?
Risk Group 2 does not mean the product is unsafe. It means the light output is strong enough that users should avoid staring directly into the light source for extended periods. This is similar to many professional-grade LED, UV, and curing lights used in beauty, medical, and industrial applications- like ring lights, crescent lights, etc.
When used as intended, the lamp falls within internationally accepted safety limits. The testing confirmed that normal use of the device does not exceed the exposure thresholds established by IEC 62471.

Key Takeaway
The PLA Beauty UV LED Lamp successfully passed IEC 62471 photobiological safety testing and was classified as either Risk Group 1 (Low Risk) or Risk Group 2 (Moderate Risk) depending on the operating conditions tested. These classifications indicate that the device is suitable for its intended professional use, provided standard precautions are followed, such as avoiding prolonged direct viewing of the light source and following all manufacturer instructions.

Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light FAQ

Have questions? We’re here to help

What tests has the PLA UV Light gone through?

You can find all tests and results in our post: Understanding UV Lash Technology: What the Safety Tests Mean and Why They Matter. PLA submitted the Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light through two tests:

1. Radiometric Blue Light Testing

2. IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety Testing

Results:

PLA Soft Cure UV light tested EXEMPT for:

  • Skin Thermal Hazard (EH)
  • Retinal Thermal Hazard (LR)
  • Retinal Thermal Hazard - Weak Visual Stimulus (LIR)
  • Infrared (IR) Eye Hazard (EIR)

RG1 for Radiometric Blue Light Irradiance (200mm) at high setting

RG1 for IEC 62471 (200 mm) at the low setting

RG2 for IEC 62471 (200 mm) at the highest setting

Why is the PLA UV Light white?

PLA uses a Phosphor Coating that converts part of the violet light into other visible wavelengths. When those wavelengths mix together your eye sees those wavelengths as white instead of a deep blue violet. All results in our tests were conducted with the phosphor on.

White light is easier on your eyes as a lash artist. Clients also can be more comfortable with a white light versus a blue-purple light.

Can you use the PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light with other UV lash glues?

  • PLA Fuse - Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Adhesive needs a UV light with a wavelength output between 380-420 nm
  • The Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light has a wavelength output ranging from 400nm - 410nm, check if your glue is compatible.

Can I get a discount on the  PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light?

The PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light retails for $499. If you are a PLA Choice member, you can enroll in a 12-month subscription for our Fuse - Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension and get the light for just $149. This promotion is only valid for customers that have a 12-month glue subscription and have an active PLA Choice membership.

Does the PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light emit heat?

The PLA UV Lash Extension light is low to no heat, allowing appointments to be more comfortable for your clients.

My client complains that the UV light is too bright, what can I do to make my client more comfortable?

PLA's Soft Cure Light is a soft white light, so it should be easy on your clients' eyes. However, if your client is sensitive to light, place an eyepad on top of their eyelid to help keep the eye closed and block the light.

Are UV lash extensions safe?

Yes, with proper use and safety measures, UV lash extensions are very safe.

What is included with the PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light?

The box includes the PLA Soft Cure UV Eyelash Extension Light in white or black; two soft push foot pedals, and a USB wall adapter.
